Windows 7 x64 Update Failure Reverting Changes

On one of my Windows 7 x64 RC1 computers, the automatic updates got stuck at 72%. I left it for about an hour, then rebooted. The installed resumed at 62% this time, but still sat there. I rebooted again, this time into safe mode. It detected the install was incomplete so it said it was reverting changes. It rebooted into normal mode, and continued to say:
Failure configuring Windows updates
Reverting changes.
Do not turn off your computer.
Anyone else getting this problem?

As of now, it still says reverting changes, I haven't tried anything to fix it yet.

Reverting didnt work. I did a System Restore and that worked going back to the restore point windows automatically made this morning at 1am (May 27, 2009 1:00am) On a side note, I am very confused at why I need different 3ware x64 drivers for my hardware raid controller card ( escalade raid 8006 2lp) for vista vs 7. The restore was kinda tricky, I first used my Windows 7 repair disc I made, and couldn't get it to work. I tried the first option, which was something like start windows and fix errors. Then I was just going do a repair reinstall so I used my Windows 7 x64 RC disc, and I clicked "Repair Windows", and it loaded the same screen I got before with my repair disc (good to know you dont actually need to make a repair disc if you have your Win 7 disc). I selected System Restore, I clicked Next, and I chose the restore point from this morning. Im back in windows... trying to figure out now how to tell windows to NOT install those language updates automatically.

I marked the language updates at hidden, then installed some other updates, which still caused problems again, so I dont think the language updates was the problem (for people wanting their language updates). After installing some of the other updates, when windows started, I got these errors:
WerFault.exe - The instruction at 0x76e73892 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.
LVCSer64.exe - The instruction at 0x76e73892 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.
dw20.exe - The instruction at 0x76e73892 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.
userinit.exe - The instruction at 0x76e73892 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.
dwm.exe - The instruction at 0x76e73892 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.
taskhosts.exe - The instruction at 0x76e73892 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.
I guess I need to revert back to a pervious restore point again :(

I restored back to the 1am restore point. Back to a working machine... I dont know which Critical update is causing these errors, but I disable all the pending updatings from automatically installing.

I have the same problem,
i have no idea what to do.
Maybe i will install all the language updates.

Same problem.
Knew I should have stuck with XP.
Just about ready to try a different OS altogether --any suggestions?

i think that tell us we are using copy of windows 7. exactly we should to buy or find codes for updates windows 7.

I just downloaded [windows6.1-KB947821-v4-x64.msu] a supposed hotfix to correct problems with the "Failure to Update" issue. Let you know if it works.

I had the same issue. I held the power button to shut my laptop down and attempted to start in safe mode. After several times of going through to same message and restarting itself, I shut it down manually again and turned it on while holding F8. It didn't start in safe mode but it went to the screen and said, 'loading windows 100%' and windows started up like I hadn't been pulling my hair out for two hours. Personally, I am of the thought that microsoft is out to meddle with my sanity (which is somewhat shakey anyway) and therefore created vista which prompted me to upgrade to windows 7 asap..... It's sick, I just want my windows xp back... we had a beautiful relationship.
