Handsome Hansens

14 May 2008, Reality Shoot

What do you get when you take a really fun couple, add some 18th century clothing, a hyena, some fantastic wallpaper, a pinch of humor, and an authentic African boar spear?

...only the coolest engagement photo ever! But you'll have to wait until I finish to see the final product.

The other day I met with my incredible sketch artist Mike, to draw up plans for my most recent Reality Shoot... "The Handsome Hansen"s".

Below is the final sketch Mike drew up of the beautiful couple, and I could not have been more pleased.

I should have the final image up soon, so stay tuned!!

WAITING IMPATIENTLY FOR FINAL!! CAN'T WAIT! QUICK QUESTION, BEING AS YOU ARE SUCH A TALENTED ARTEEST WHY DO YOU HAVE SOMEONE ELSE SKETCHING THINGS OUT? DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW? ANY WHO, JUST CURIOUS!

Mrs. Bettis, sketching, at least to me is a totally separate art in itself, and it was something that I was never really good at. Mostly because I am a perfectionist and it bothered me to draw a "rough" of something and leave it "unfinished". I have also found it very helpful early on in my process to communicate my vision verbally and visually, (I basically act out the different characters), so that Mike and I can look over his sketches to see what changes need to be made, and where I might be falling short of the desired face expressions etc. The last reason I have Mike do this for me is to see the proportion, and layout of the various people and objects, and how they effect one another. This allows me to see what is realistic about my vision, and also what will need to be changed to make the particular shot a reality. In the end I have also become quite busy, which has forced me to realize how much help I need as the photo shoots get larger and more involved. I need to be able to stand back and see the entire picture. I need to be able to direct my assistants so that they can help make the production run smoothly, and quickly, and allow me to do my job, and ultimately create something that totally satisfies my client.

looks very promising, Brian!
patiently waiting for the final result.
May i ask a question about your lightning setup?
Do you rent equipment or do you own strobes?
Would you mind share what you "usually" use ??

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

Enik, I rent and own some of my own lighting gear. I love Dynalite because I travel quite a bit, and I am usually needing to shoot in non-studio spaces, that might be tight on room. Dynalite strobes are also less expensive, lighter weight, and have a great system, like portable battery generators, attachments, specialty accessories etc. Check out their site at www.dynalite.com hope this helped!

They are going to love it. If I received this engagement invite I would frame it, put it on my wall, and show it to everyone who came over! I’m so excited for the final.

Excellent theme. The sketch and preview alone show how excellent this is going to turn out. As always, impressed by your work, dude.
